GRASTON TECHNIQUE

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is a patented form of manual therapy. It is often referred to as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. The Graston Technique is one of several manual therapy approaches that uses instruments specifically designed with curves and edges to help release restricted tissues. This enables optimal muscle release.

The technique utilizes a stainless steel tool that is designed to aid the practitioner in identifying areas of restriction. It also breaks down scar tissue and fascial adhesions. Core Physiotherapy Rehab & Wellness practitioners are fully trained in The Graston Technique and use it in conjunction with other modalities to assist in treating a variety of chronic and acute conditions.

What is the Purpose of Graston Technique?

The Graston technique is used to:

  • Break down scar tissue and fascia restrictions that are a result of a  soft tissue injury (e.g. a strained muscle, sprained ligament).
  • Stretch fascial tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated (e.g., muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments).
  • Improve the healing environment for the injured soft tissue.
